Yesterday we were walking with the sun warming our faces and the leaves were raining down on us. I really wanted to hold my arms out and spin! Honestly! Do you ever feel like that? Do you ever get the urge to grab a passer by and dance as you're walking with your head phones in. Do you ever smile to the family that are playing together amidst the gorgeous sound of their children's laughter? Do you catch snowflakes on your tongue? Do you sit on the grass and make daisy chains? Or is it just me?!
I love simple things. I also love travelling and having a mobile phone but I don't ignore those simple things that we take for granted. There's enough badness casting shadows in this world so we have to appreciate the small stuff.
I'm going to share my top 20 list of simple things I appreciate and hope you share yours too,
So there you have it, I'm a bit of a day dreamer (My husband would say a big daydreamer!) and I'm always looking around. Time goes by so quickly and already I miss collecting leaves with my daughter and making collages, I miss counting snails as we walked to school. I miss those simple things but I'm glad I appreciated them.
I'm easily pleased and I'm quite likely to kick leaves at you if you're walking with me in the autumn, it's got to be done! This time of year always bring my husbands wise words of "you're going to kick a dog turd one of these days" every time I deliberately shuffle my way through the fallen leaves. I don't care.
So come on, indulge me, comment below with your most cherished simple things, who know's, maybe I'm not the only one cooing over a butterfly as it flutters past my head!
How old are you? Have you wandered beyond any of those milestone birthdays yet?
I remember approaching my 30th and I had a real problem with it, I wanted to tiptoe into that next decade without any attention. A meal, a night out and a decade later and here I am taking fairy steps towards my 40th. Yes four whole decades of me. I'm not going to dread it because it made no difference the last time so instead I'm insisting people know just how young 40 actually is!
In fact I'm so youthful that I'm typing this whilst chewing Hubba Bubba, and yes I'm blowing it into giant bubbles.
I'm a November baby, a Scorpio ← if you want to learn about my supposed characteristics, click on the link and let me know if you agree 😉But please for goodness sake ignore the bit about body parts! (What the hell?) Oh and yes I am stubborn 🙂
Over the years I've often enjoyed an extended birthday simply because my friends and family are dotted all over the place, but this time it's started in September! How good is that!
I met my brother and he gave me a gorgeous jewellery set so I already have a birthday present 😀 Not only that but it turns out that my husband and a good friend have been in cahoots since March (March!!) and there's a girly weekend in Sardinia on the horizon!
How lucky am I! Perfetto!
Don't you think it's interesting that we celebrate these big birthdays? It's as though each one is a major achievement of plodding through life to the next one.
Treats and spending time with loved ones is a definite tick in my book, but on my 40th, what am I actually celebrating?
Possibly the amazing achievement of surviving the world for four decades because I'm (apparently) a controlling and stubborn Scorpio. (Girl Power!)
Or maybe it's a celebration for surviving this long! surviving without being banished to another planet by my family and friends, for being that same controlling and stubborn Scorpio! Hmm...
Who cares why we celebrate the big ones? I'm going to be 40 and it's my turn to enjoy it!
So what will turning 40 bring? wrinkles? creaky joints? the inability to retain information?
Well, I discovered my first wrinkle many years ago, I tried to wipe away foundation that had run into it like a river settling onto a river bed! My knees have creaked since I was fourteen and can break the ice during any awkward silence. And as for retaining information, there hasn't been room in my brain since the birds and butterflies from Snow White flew in during my childhood.
Yup, no old aged concerns here!
As old as my daughter may think I'm going to be, it's said that life actually begins at 40.
Apparently, I'll ooze a new found confidence and not give a buggery what anyone else thinks!
Yep at 40, I will lead my life knowing that I'm apparently a decade worth of wiser than when I turned 30. I apparently won't bat an eyelid knowing that my tactful days are over, all because my new 'couldn't give a buggery' expression says it all anyway!
Don't worry, I'll definitely keep smiling, singing while driving, shuffling through leaves when walking and loving my entire life and those I share it with.
But let it be known, that the wise, confident and tactless 40 year old me will use what ever is in my hand at the time, to slap whoever risks even implying that I'm middle aged!
You know, I think I'm ready.
Bring on 40!
(a very youthful)
