When I was a kid I was accidentally pushed under water in a swimming pool and my fear of water was born.
Over the years, I considered swimming lessons, always talking myself out of it, either the lessons were too late at night, I couldn't get there or, to be honest, the thought of being the only adult in arm bands didn't really sell it to me! 😐
Last year I eventually plucked up the courage to contact the instructor and thanks to his enthusiasm at having a non-swimmer to work with I signed up. It really wasn't as embarrassing as I'd imagined! I started with nervously getting in and bobbing around and got to the point where I could do breast stroke! A great achievement considering the smell of chlorine used to make me nervous enough!
So six weeks later I was secretly proud to drag my daughter to the pool ('to help build my confidence' I told her) You should have seen her face when she stopped at our non-swimmer marker, turned round and I was swimming right behind her! It was the best thing! She stood open-mouthed spluttering the words "you're swimming!" Her expression was priceless.
So yes I am a swimmer, albeit a late one but a swimmer nonetheless!
I'm so pleased and proud that I've faced my fear and had an amazing time swimming in the sea on holiday last year! 😀
