Last Christmas I decided to surprise my husband and buy him a really special guitar that he'd been eyeing up. Normally I wouldn't risk it, because I know nothing about guitars, or music, in fact the extent of my musical talents stretches to a repetitive hum! But a few months previous he'd sent me a picture of the one he was spending hours drooling over. Easy peasy!
He would never expect me to buy it so I went online to avoid being that awkward customer in the music shop without an ounce of music knowledge! I was so excited as the payment went through, this was special, a gorgeous guitar from the one and only Dawsons Music Shop and he didn't have a clue.
Dawsons were brilliant, they arranged delivery and kept me updated, in fact the whole thing was the smoothest way for a non-musician to buy an amazing gift for a guitar obsessed husband.
I spent my post-purchase days smiling, knowiing I was on a best present ever winner, knowing that I would finally surprise the husband (he's the most romantic one) knowing that Christmas morning was going to be epic.
So about a week before Christmas, we were driving home, cheesy festive tunes playing while we talked all things Christmas and me secretly aniticipating my 'best wife ever' award when the music stopped playing and my car announced loudly
"You have a text message from Dawsons Music Shop"
I frantically pressed every button on the dash in a panic to shut up my hi-tech car! and I think I may have cried a very long "Noooooooooo!" I looked at my husband and 'Cheshire cat' came to mind. He knew. If he hadn't have guessed from the message he had now guessed from my hysterical reaction! So despite my secret mission and my smug feeling of being the eternal winner at surprise presents, it hadn't quite gone to plan. My husband didn't stop smiling as he awaited Christmas morning like a little kid and even attempted to reassure me by telling me (whilst grinning) that the text could have meant anything! Hmmm.
Talk about a lesson learned! From technology making my surprise easier to technology merrily announcing my secret to the world!
Hats off to my husband for his oscar winning performance of "Ooooh what a surprise!" and despite the spoiler he really does love his new guitar.
