We've done it, January is ticked & February has arrived!
January, the month that hosts Blue Monday , the month of post Christmas blues,
and the month of new beginnings! 🤩
Okay so let's look at this in the right way! January gets a raw deal but we can dig deep for some positive vibes right? You know that saying?
"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade"
(Dale Carnegie 1948)
Lemonade it is!
Amongst the Christmas paraphernalia and the 'let's sort this house out' chaos, I've had a great January. Okay so it's mainly involved food , but I love food and chatting over some yummy tucker with friends and family is even better!
I've crocheted like the clappers for charity, I've re-jigged this fab blog 😉and I've done loads of writing! January has been productive!
In true spirit of Simply Sarah, (appreciation of simple things if you've some how missed that! 😐)
I'm going to share my top 5 simple things from January 2018!
Amongst the sorting we rediscovered the photo's.🙂
Yep actual, hold-them-in-your-hand photo's!
We donned Cheshire cat smiles as we reminisced over family holidays and our kids cheeky exploits.
Want a tip? Go through your digital pics and get a load printed!
Sitting together surrounded by memories and gasps of 'Omg do you remember this?!' is well worth the old school prints!
Actual hold-them-in-your-hand photo's are a positive way to appreciate how precious life is and they were a great tool for my girl during her teenage years.
Who wouldn't feel happy when cooing over their kiddie self!
2. Winter woolies
I 'm serious! 😁
When you're as cold as me simple winter woolies are absolutely appreciated!
If I'm off for a walk I don my bobble hat, sprightly pom pom and all! And if I'm hanging around the house and it feels like I'm wearing ice blocks for slippers, (often!) my crazy chunky socks and house boots are a must!
I'm all for a bit of cheery warmth!
3. The little boy who took 3 days to walk home 😮
Okay so this may be a lie, but it certainly looked like it might take him that long...
We're driving to a family meal and as we stop at the traffic lights, I notice a mum pushing a pram at a snails pace. She looks back and I realise she's waiting for her little boy who's walking even slower! I can only see the top of his head because of the car next to us so I figure he's in trouble and dragging his feet. Tut tut!
Nope, as he comes into view he 's actually driving a tiny car, I'm talking Iphone tiny, and by remote control! He was going so slowly that his car was in between his feet as he waddled! This simple sight gave us a laugh, just imagine:
"Mummy please can I take my new car?"
"Of course darling, oh you mean drive it!"
3 days later...🤣
His little mission to drive his car home was pretty incredible but we did wonder how long it took him to get there!

4. Catching up with friends & family
Simple but special! 😍
I've cooked dinner , I've had dinner cooked for me and I've been out for dinner! Lots of eating (Typical) but more importantly lots of catching up, laughing/reminiscing/planning.
The grand kiddies slept over which meant lot of treats, I can't recommend The Cocoa Bean Company enough! I was in choco heaven just watching! Oh and guess what? They do adult workshops...😮🤤
The annual panto always brings January cheer and my daughter and I laughed our way through the panto fun.
Did you know research shows that spending time with people has a positive effect on life? so go on, phone someone and arrange something now!
5. Spending time outside
So simple and makes a big difference! 😁
I'm so lucky to be surrounded by natural beauty! Sometimes I skip out for my walk and other times I'll be honest and say that I have to force myself out! Spending time outside is great for so many reasons, Business Insider UK explains → here.
Here are my reasons:
6. Ok so I know I said Top 5 but I have to add another! 😉
I was made up to put my reader helper hat back on and get to school after the Christmas break!
It's a nice feeling when the little kidders beg me to read with them before I've even sat down! One lad was so enthusiastic to read more pages this time that I had to explain I needed to read with the other kids too. His response?
"But I don't want to go back to R.E Sarah"
Brilliant! So it appears some of their enthusiasm may go a little bit deeper than reading with me!
It's important to notice the and appreciate the everyday stuff and it's often those things that mean the most or that makes us happy.
So there you have it, my top 5 (6) simple things from the greyest month of the year!
What simple things did you see and appreciate this month? Let us know in the comments!
