We've all seen someone struggling and offered to lend a hand, but do you know that helping others is actually good for your health?
When I was a brownie I remember chasing a man's hat in the wind, I caught it , gave him it back and he was grateful and I was pretty pleased with myself!
Good deed done and not only was I in line for a badge (Yey me!) but I felt happy to have helped. 🙂
A positive impact
It's been proven that doing good, does you good! The Mental Health Foundation has written a fab article to prove it here!
I enjoy helping others and I feel amazing when I do so here's how doing good is good for you:
How can you help others?
Donate to your local food bank
When you're doing your food shop, put a few extra things in your basket . There are people near to you who are struggling to feed their families so why not help them out? Find your local food bank here!
Whether it be struggling to reach a shelf, someone looking lost or a vulnerable person hesitant to cross the road, you can help!
Get on your tip-toes, offer directions and escort them across the road!
(I was once so helpful that I offered to help a lady over the road who was in fact just waiting for lift...) 😏
Do you have any spare time? Okay so that might seem like a joke to some of you, but if you do have some free time, why not volunteer?
Click here and you'll discover lots of organisations asking for help. 🤗
I don't just mean money.
If you're a crafter drowning in your own creations, consider selling your amazing things to raise money? You could even can donate your wares to a local organisation?
If you have a skill or talent that would benefit someone, donate your skill! 👍
Remember the basics
Saying hi is simple but overlooked.
Ever sat next to someone on a train and spent an hour in silence? I'm not pressuring you to have a full conversation, I have friends who would rather sit in peace!
But saying hello as you take your seat isn't just polite, it might make someone smile! If you're going to sit that close to a complete stranger for an hour you may as well break the ice! 😳
Helping others doesn't always mean strangers.
If a friend is down in the dumps, treat them to coffee. If your parents are struggling with the housework, get your marigolds on! If your yummy mummy friend needs a break , offer to have the kids. 🙂
My good deeds
I like to crochet and knit, some would say it's a Granny hobby , I say it's relaxing and creative! I've donated my creations and I've sold some to raise money for charity and I'm pretty proud of myself!
An added bonus is, keeping my hands busy stops me raiding the food cupboard out of boredom! 😆
I help out at a primary school and I love it!
It's nice to interact with the kidders now that my daughter is all grown up! 🙁
I always come home smiling and hearing their reading improve week by week inspires me to keep helping!
Health & Happiness
There you have it, helping others is good for your health and who doesn't want, health and happiness?!
